Housing In Greater Western Sydney 2025 Update – November 2025

Australia’s housing landscape has shifted rapidly in recent years, with rising costs, supply constraints, and growing demand reshaping how households access and experience housing. This report provides an updated overview of housing in Greater Western Sydney (GWS), following the last paper released in 2019 by Amy Lawton. It draws on 2021 ABS Census data and other key data sources, and includes mapping to visualise spatial patterns across the region. The paper examines dwelling types and density, housing tenure, dwelling supply, social housing and rental assistance, household composition, housing costs, and affordability in GWS.
