Beating The Heat Mapping Access to Swimming Sites in Greater Western Sydney – 2024 Update

BY Dana Adwan, Social Researcher, WESTIR LTD

This report investigates the vital role of swimming sites in Greater Western Sydney (GWS) as essential facilities for residents, particularly in the face of rising temperatures and climate change impacts. The study builds upon the findings of WESTIR’s 2022 Beating The Heat paper (Butler, 2022). The analysis covers public pools, wild swimming sites, and splash parks, examining their accessibility, geographic distribution, and affordability across the region, utilising data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2021 Census and MapInfo for visualisation of swimming sites.
