WESTIR Ltd is a not-for-profit community organisation, standing for Western Sydney Regional Information and Research Service. Since 1981, we have been committed to enhancing accessibility to social research and data for everyone in Greater Western Sydney (GWS) and beyond. We address current and potential issues by collecting, analysing, and interpreting information, making it readily available to the community. Our guiding principle is to ‘let the data run free.’
WESTIR has available current data and information about Greater Western Sydney, and beyond, for you to use.
This paper summarises the Socio-Economic Index for Areas in the Local Government Areas of Greater Sydney and Greater Western Sydney, utilising the 2021 Census data provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Based on the 2021 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census, this paper analyses and presents the disability among people living in Greater Western Sydney (GWS). As the variable ‘Need for Assistance with Core Activities (ASSNP)’ is the only variable used by ABS to collect the data on disability, the phrase ‘Need for Assistance with Core Activities’ has been used throughout the paper to signify the disability status of people in GWS.
As part of the Australian Government’s election commitment for a stronger, more diverse and independent community sector, the Department of Social Services is exploring opportunities to better support Australian communities through the design and administration of grants to the sector, including more meaningful working partnerships and options for greater innovation.

The Australian National Research Organisation for Women's Safety (known as ANROWS) has announced the first national study to investigate workplace technology-facilitated sexual harassment (WTFSH). The study has revealed one in seven Australian adults surveyed have admitted to engaging in such behaviour in the workplace. The evidence highlights clear gendered patterns in the perpetration of WTFSH, with men more likely to be offenders, particularly in male-dominated work environments. It also emphasises the role of sexist attitudes in driving such behavior. Alarmingly, less than half of the perpetrators had any formal reports or complaints made against them, indicating a significant gap in reporting and accountability. The report's lead researcher is Associate Professor Asher Flynn from Monash University. ... See MoreSee Less

Apex administrators and peak central agencies have been left looking pale and stale after a statistical error forced a correction to CALD tallies.Transport for NSW will begin to seek input from key stakeholders and landowners around a new interchange and bus layover planned for the emerging city of Bradfield.
This will be followed by broader engagement with communities about the new services, which are due to start operating before the new Airport opens in 2026.
The new interchanges to be built around the future Bradfield City Centre and the Airport will allow passengers to easily transfer between airport, bus and Metro services.
Input from the community and stakeholders will be considered to help improve passenger experience as the project progresses towards first services before the Airport opens.
Along with the coming Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport and the toll-free M12 Motorway, the new bus services will help ensure Western Sydney residents have a wide range of transport options in and around the precinct.
To ensure they are operating as soon as possible, the new services will make use of existing infrastructure including existing dedicated bus lanes on the newly upgraded The Northern Road.
The new services will be a first step towards a Western Sydney Rapid Bus network with additional services expected to be introduced as demand develops following the Airport opening in 2026.
